Comment rules

Why we have comments

The comment section under our articles is a place for readers to share views, add information and discuss respectfully. We welcome different opinions; challenge ideas, not people.

You need an account and must be signed in to comment. Your comment is published under your name (or the display name set in your account).

What we don't publish

Comments containing any of the following will not be published or will be removed:

  • Insults and abuse: swearing, or insulting, mocking or demeaning people, including readers, authors and people mentioned in the news.
  • Hate speech and discrimination: targeting people because of language, race, ethnicity, religion, sect, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other characteristic.
  • Threats and incitement to violence: threats against a person or group, glorifying or inciting violence.
  • Personal data: phone numbers, addresses, ID numbers, email addresses, license plates and similar details about yourself or others; details of someone's private life.
  • Criminal content: encouraging crime, praising crimes or criminals, promoting illegal goods or services.
  • Content harmful to children: anything relating to child abuse, sexual content involving minors, or information that could identify a child.
  • Obscenity: sexually explicit or obscene language and links.
  • Spam and advertising: commercial promotion, repeated messages, irrelevant links, redirects and scams.
  • Copyright infringement: copying long passages of text, images or other content belonging to others without permission.
  • Misleading identity: pretending to be another person, organization, author or member of Bora Haber staff; using fake accounts.
  • Deliberate falsehoods: claims that contradict established facts and could endanger public health or safety.
  • Off-topic content: long posts unrelated to the article and posts meant to derail the discussion.

How comments are moderated

  • Every comment passes through an AI-assisted pre-filter before it is published. The filter is used to catch clear violations such as swearing, insults, spam and personal data.
  • Comments the filter clears are published immediately. Comments it flags are not published and are held for review.
  • If the pre-filter is unavailable for any reason, comments are not published automatically; they are held for review.
  • When a comment receives a certain number of reports from readers, it is hidden automatically and held for review.
  • Our moderation team makes the final decision on held and reported comments. The automated filter is a first screen; it does not decide on its own whether a comment stays up.

Reporting a comment

To report a comment that breaks the rules, use the "Report" link next to it. Choosing a reason helps us review it faster. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, and the reporter's identity is not shown to the comment's author.

Removal and account sanctions

We may remove comments that break the rules without notice. For repeated or serious violations, we may temporarily restrict commenting, or suspend or close the account. If you think a decision was wrong, you can appeal by writing to info@borahaber.com.

Legal requests and takedowns

If you believe a comment violates your personal rights or is unlawful, send the link to the comment and the grounds for your request to info@borahaber.com. Notices are handled under Turkish Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Internet Publications; content found to be unlawful is removed. Court orders and decisions of competent authorities are applied with priority and without delay.

You are responsible for your comments

You are responsible for what you post and for any legal consequences. Comments do not reflect the views of Bora Haber. If competent authorities make a lawful request, we may be required to share information about the account that posted a comment, as permitted by law.

Links

You may include links in comments, but they are marked to search engines as user-generated content and pass no ranking value from our site. Comments with spam links or links to harmful sites are removed.

Language and frequency

  • Write in the language of the article: Turkish for Turkish articles, English for English ones.
  • To prevent flooding, there is a limit on how often you can comment. If you reach it, wait a little and try again.

Deleting your comment

You can delete your own comment at any time from the menu next to it. Deleted comments no longer appear on the site. When you close your account, your comments are removed from the site as well. How long records related to comments are kept for legal reasons is explained in our Personal data notice.

Changes to these rules

We may update these rules when needed. The current version is always on this page.
