In short

You don't need an account or any personal details to read Bora Haber. When you create an account, subscribe to the newsletter, post a comment or contact us, we collect only what that task needs. We do not sell your personal data.

What we collect

Account details: your email address, name, password (stored only as an irreversible hash), or, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the identifier that service shares with us. We also keep sign-in records for security.
Features you use: saved articles, quizzes you've taken, your newsletter and notification preferences.
What you write: your comments, reports you submit and messages you send through the contact form.
Newsletter: your email address, newsletter language and the time you confirmed your subscription.
Notifications: if you allow breaking news notifications, the subscription details your browser creates.
Usage data: which pages are read, device and browser type, and similar information. We don't store your IP address in raw form; we keep only an irreversible hash.

Why we use it

To run the site, create and protect your account and provide the features you ask for.
To send the newsletter and breaking news notifications, only if you have opted in.
To keep the comment section safe and prevent spam, abuse and harassment.
To understand what people read, improve the site and measure its speed.
To show advertising (personalized ads only with your consent).
To meet our legal obligations and respond to requests from authorities.

AI-assisted comment pre-screening

Before a comment is published, it passes through an automated pre-screen for profanity, spam, insults and personal data. The pre-screen runs on Claude, a model provided by our service provider Anthropic, and looks only at the comment text. If the pre-screen holds a comment, it stays unpublished until our moderation team reviews it. See our Comment rules for details.

Who we share it with

We work with a number of service providers to run the site. They process data only to provide their services to us:

Hosting and infrastructure: Hostinger (servers, Germany), Cloudflare (content delivery, security, file storage).
Email: Resend (verification, password reset and newsletter emails; forwarding contact form messages to our team).
Sign-in: Google and Apple (only if you use that sign-in option).
Analytics and advertising: Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Google AdSense (only with your cookie consent).
Comment pre-screening: Anthropic.
Notifications: your browser's push service (Google, Apple or Mozilla) delivers breaking news notifications to your device.
Embedded content: YouTube, X and Instagram content loads only after you consent or press play.

Some of these providers are based outside Türkiye. Our Personal data notice explains the safeguards that apply to international transfers. Where the law requires it, we may also share information with the competent authorities.

Your choices

Cookies: you can turn analytics, advertising and embedded content cookies on or off at any time using the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.
Newsletter: unsubscribe with one click using the link at the bottom of every issue.
Notifications: remove notification permission in your browser's site settings.
Account: download a copy of your data or delete your account from your account settings.
Your rights: to exercise your rights under Turkish data protection law (KVKK), write to info@borahaber.com.

Children

Bora Haber is intended for a general audience. You must be at least 16 to create an account or post comments. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it.

Security

Connections are encrypted, passwords are stored as irreversible hashes, IP addresses are kept only as hashes and access to the admin panel is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a security incident occurs, we will notify the Turkish Personal Data Protection Board and the people affected as the law requires.

Changes to this page

We update this page as our services change. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page. If we make a significant change, we will announce it on the site and, where appropriate, by email to the address registered to your account.
