CapCut said it is working on a new plugin that brings its video editing and generation tools into ChatGPT. The announcement came on October 24 at the company's CapCut World event in Los Angeles. The invite-only gathering was the second stop in a series for content creators, following Singapore. The final event in the series will be held in London in November.
Video in three steps
In the workflow the company described, a user starts with an idea in ChatGPT. The plugin turns that idea into a video without leaving ChatGPT. The resulting draft is passed to the editor in CapCut's web version, where the user can refine, share and publish it.
In a 26-second demo video, a user uploads five short soccer clips to ChatGPT and asks for a 12-second highlight video. ChatGPT outlines a brief plan: vertical 9:16 format, fast cuts matched to the music's rhythm and vivid colors. CapCut's timeline then opens beside the chat window; the clips and music are arranged there, and the text "GOAL!" is added over a player's celebration in the final scene.
Release timeline
The plugin is coming soon. According to the promo video, the open beta will be available on mobile, desktop and web in November, but the company did not give an exact date. Whether the plugin will be paid, which ChatGPT plans it will work with and which countries it will launch in are not yet clear.
OpenAI has long been working to turn ChatGPT into a platform that works with other services. Last year the company opened the ChatGPT app store, which lets services such as Spotify and Canva be used inside chats. According to OpenAI's help page, plugins now live in a shared directory across ChatGPT and Codex. CapCut aims to shorten the path from a video idea to finished content and make content creation smoother.
