The Hellenic Police (EL.AS) will buy 60 buses made in Türkiye to modernize its vehicle fleet. The new vehicles will replace old buses that have been in use for 23 years.

The plan is to replace buses used since 2003, which have largely reached the end of their economic life, with 60 new Mercedes-Benz buses. The buses are said to be built at the brand's production facilities in Türkiye. An earlier plan involved about 40 buses, and the number has risen to 60.

Features of the vehicles

The new vehicles will be prepared to suit the needs of the YAT and YMET units, which serve in crowd control, maintaining public order and security operations. The specially configured buses are intended to be used not only for transporting personnel but also as mobile support and rest areas during long assignments.

The buses will have equipment such as air conditioning, seats with seat belts, a washbasin, a refrigerator and a toilet. This is meant to improve working and resting conditions for officers who spend long hours on duty at demonstrations, sporting events and security operations.

Official details on the final contract value, the exact order quantity and the delivery schedule have not yet been settled.
