A new-generation data center campus expected to support Türkiye's digital transformation will be built in Ankara's Temelli district. The first phase will create more than 22 megawatts of IT capacity and a large data center area. The first phase is targeted to enter service in 2028, followed by a new campus in Istanbul.

The partnership is projected to reach 200 megawatts of capacity and up to 3 billion dollars in investment potential in the long term.

Remarks at the ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Fuat Oktay, chair of the Turkish parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and AK Party Ankara MP, said Ankara is a critical production hub thanks to its population, organized industrial zones and foreign trade volume. Stressing that accessing big data alone is not enough and that data must be analyzed and integrated into decision-making, Oktay said Türkiye's geographic position gives it a major advantage for data centers. He also said the 1000-megawatt capacity target could be raised much higher.

AK Party Deputy Chair Ömer İleri said algorithms and software matter for a fair technology ecosystem, but owning infrastructure is even more critical. İleri described the 1000-megawatt target as very valuable.

Erman Ilıcak, Honorary Chairman of Rönesans Holding, said the first stage of the Ankara Temelli Campus will have 22 megawatts of capacity. According to Ilıcak, after 450 million dollars of infrastructure and building investment, service provider firms will invest 900 million dollars in technology; once all three stages are complete, total investment will reach 4.1 billion dollars. Ilıcak also said the goal is to make Türkiye Europe's fifth-largest data center hub.

Ilıcak announced that the foundation of the center in Istanbul's Deliklikaya will be laid in February. The 120-megawatt campus is expected to draw 1.7 billion dollars from Rönesans and 3.5 billion dollars from tenants and partners, for a total of 5.2 billion dollars.

Paula Cogan, Digital Realty's EMEA Region President, said Türkiye holds a unique position at the intersection of Europe, the Middle East and Asia. She said the Temelli campus is designed to serve cloud providers, businesses, financial institutions and the public sector, and will be one of the country's most advanced digital infrastructure platforms when completed in 2028.
