Samsung's new headphones, which have appeared in records under model number SM-U700, point to the company returning to the over-ear category after a long gap. Samsung has not yet made an official announcement; the product is expected to go on sale as Galaxy Studio.
Design and connectivity
While the Galaxy Buds series stands out with its in-ear design, the new model has a larger build. The over-ear form offers a different approach to comfort and sound experience. On the Bluetooth side, the Bluetooth 6.1 version used in the Galaxy Buds 4 series is thought to be possible; however, the RRA certification does not definitively confirm the supported version.
AAC, LC3 and Samsung's own SSC UHQ are said to be among the possible audio codecs. It is not yet clear which of them will be in the final product. Because sound quality also depends on the source file, connection conditions and hardware, it is hard to judge the final experience from codec support alone.
Expected features and competition
Adding the Buds Auto Switch feature found on Galaxy Buds models could make switching between Samsung devices easier. For people who use a phone, tablet and computer at the same time, this adds convenience in daily use. A USB Type-C port is expected for charging and possible wired audio.
Active noise cancellation (ANC) and long battery life are seen as the key factors that will determine the product's competitiveness. Samsung aims to take on high-end rivals such as the Apple AirPods Max 2 and Sony WH-1000XM6 with this model. Noise reduction performance and wearing comfort are also among the other important factors that could affect its success in the market.
