Ambassador Jiang commented on the 31st UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP31), to be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya on 9-20 November 2026, and on China-Türkiye energy cooperation. Jiang said building an ecological civilization is directly tied to the future of humanity.

Emphasis on an "Implementation COP"

Jiang said Türkiye, as host and president, has described COP31 as an "Implementation COP" and announced an action agenda focused on putting climate commitments into practice. Congratulating Türkiye, he said they believe the country can give momentum to deeper dialogue among parties and stronger joint action.

China and Türkiye, which actively take part in and contribute to global climate governance, share many common views on tackling climate change and have broad potential for cooperation.

Ambassador Jiang

Jiang said there are common points between Chinese President Xi Jinping's green development approach and Türkiye's "Zero Waste" philosophy. He said both countries support a low-carbon economic transformation, aim for carbon neutrality and remain committed to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities".

Saying China will take an active part in negotiations and consultations to help the conference deliver concrete results, Jiang announced that a large "China Corner" will be set up at the venue. He invited all segments of Turkish society to explore cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

Energy cooperation

Jiang said China holds an important position in clean electricity supply and the renewable energy industry, and that about 4 of every 10 kilowatt-hours of electricity consumed in his country come from green sources. He also said Türkiye's energy transition goals create significant market potential.

According to Jiang, the two countries should advance large-scale solar plants, onshore wind, and projects combining solar power with energy storage. Technological cooperation and local production in solar and wind equipment should be supported, and Türkiye's geographic position and China's industrial capacity should be used in third-country markets as well.

Jiang said China has built a complete industrial chain in electric vehicle batteries, energy storage systems and smart grids, and gained experience through large-scale projects. He said they are ready to deepen practical cooperation with Türkiye in green energy under the Belt and Road Initiative.
