According to data released by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, Türkiye met 70.3 percent of the electricity it produced in September from domestic sources. A total of 31.79 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated during the month.
Renewables' share of installed capacity grew
Renewable installed capacity rose to 80 thousand 315 megawatts. With this figure, renewables' share of total installed capacity reached 63.1 percent, and domestic sources' share reached 72.1 percent. Combined solar and wind capacity climbed to 43 thousand 762 megawatts, and the two sources' share of the total rose to 34.4 percent.
Breakdown of generation by source
Hydropower plants remained the largest contributor, supplying 8.27 billion kilowatt-hours, or 26 percent of output. Solar produced 4.32 billion kilowatt-hours (13.6 percent) and wind 3.84 billion kilowatt-hours (12.1 percent). Together the two sources generated 8.16 billion kilowatt-hours.
Renewable generation was recorded at 18.10 billion kilowatt-hours, a 56.9 percent share, while domestic-source generation stood at 22.35 billion kilowatt-hours, a 70.3 percent share.
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar also highlighted the rise in renewable installed capacity, saying:
As our installed capacity keeps growing, we have also reached a very significant level of domestic share in electricity generation. In September, we met 70.3 percent of our total electricity generation with domestic sources. Thus, we have brought our external dependence in electricity generation below 30 percent. We will further grow our strength in electricity, where we have already reached a serious level. In this way, while strengthening our supply security, we will turn our domestic and renewable resources into an important tool for our economic development.
Alparslan Bayraktar
