Galatasaray will ask UEFA for additional measures to protect the delegation and fans ahead of the Lille away game, because of the protests continuing in France. The yellow-and-red club will visit Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday, 21 October, at 19.45 Turkish time.

The club is requesting stronger match-day security measures rather than having the game played in another city. Galatasaray is reportedly also in contact with the French Embassy and the Foreign Ministry. No decision has been announced to move or postpone the match. The delegation is planned to travel to Lille on Tuesday.

Restrictions for fans

According to Lille's announcement, the Nord Prefecture took a special decision for this match. Galatasaray fans will not be allowed to enter the stadium or its surroundings with items representing the club, such as jerseys and scarves, outside their allocated away section. Violators may have their tickets confiscated, be refused entry, be removed from the stands and face legal action. The match will be played at Decathlon Arena Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Protests in France

Protests in France against rising living costs, disruptions in public services and school conditions turned violent in many cities over the weekend. Clashes between police and protesters, damage to businesses and fires were also reported in central Lille. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez submitted his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron; the Élysée Palace announced that it was not accepted.
