Context: Protests in Germany

Separately from this incident, demonstrations against cuts to education and social spending have recently been on the agenda in German cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich, following a call by the student initiative "Gen Z steht auf". Berlin police had said they were concerned that radical groups might try to exploit the protests for their own interests.
