A referee carried out a pitch inspection on Sunday ahead of the seventh-round match between Pena Deportiva and UCAM Murcia in Spain's fourth division (Segunda Federación). Heavy rain had left the Santa Eularia des Riu municipal ground in Ibiza under water.

The ball stayed on the water

Referee José Manuel López Rodríguez, standing in ankle-deep water, dropped a ball to see whether the pitch was playable. Instead of bouncing as it would on a normal pitch, the ball stayed in the water and drifted away. The match was postponed before kick-off.

The home club shared footage of the inspection with the question: "Referee, so are we playing or not?" The rain also led to other sporting events being cancelled in Ibiza.

New date

The club announced that the postponed match would be played at the same ground on Monday, 19 October. Entry was said to be free, with fans and youth academy players invited to support the team. The kick-off time was reportedly changed later because of the weather.
