A 22-year-old Turkish Cypriot man was severely beaten by a group of Greek Cypriots in Limassol, in the south of Cyprus. The attackers allegedly cut his heels with a knife. The incident took place on Friday, 16 October.

Surgery and investigation

The attackers reportedly went to the Turkish Cypriot neighborhood where the man lives, attacked him and left him injured at the scene. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery lasting several hours. After treatment he was discharged and has been resting at home since Sunday.

The complaint was submitted to the Limassol police criminal investigation unit three days after the incident, on the morning of Monday, 19 October. Police are conducting the investigation. Initial findings suggest four people may have been involved, and work to identify the attackers continues.

Alleged motive

It was alleged that the attack may be linked to hunting dog thefts in the area in recent weeks. According to the claim, the attackers believed the man and those around him had information about the thefts. There is no confirmed information that the man had any connection to the thefts.
