More than 50 people were reported killed or wounded in an attack on a camp housing new recruits training to join Yemen's security forces. After the attack, the emergency ward of Shabwa General Hospital filled with the injured.
Citizens were urgently called on to donate blood to help treat the wounded. The transfer of the injured to hospitals continues. Local government and health officials have yet to issue an official statement on the exact number of dead and wounded.
The civil war in the country
Yemen has been the scene of a civil war that began after Iran-backed Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014. The Saudi Arabia-led Arab Coalition has supported the internationally recognized Yemeni government since March 2015.
