Jailed Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu undergoes surgery on his left leg

Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, who is held in Silivri Prison, underwent surgery at a hospital this morning for a problem in his left leg. After the operation, Mutlu was taken back to prison.

Earlier surgery and arrest

Mutlu had undergone emergency surgery for the same problem in September 2025. Four days after being discharged from hospital, on 13 September, he was detained before his check-ups and treatment were completed. He was subsequently arrested.

As his pain and complaints worsened in prison, Mutlu was taken to Silivri State Hospital for an examination on 22 October.

Reaction from Özgür Çelik

YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a statement on X after the operation. Çelik recalled that Mutlu had previously had surgery for the same reason and noted that he was returned to prison afterwards. He also criticized the trial of Mutlu and those with him in detention.

Everyone sees the cruelty inflicted on Hasan Mutlu and our comrades solely because they are in the opposition and won Bayrampaşa.

Çelik also claimed that criminals with many case files and drug dealers are being tried without detention and walk free.
