Cost-of-living protests in major cities
Protests over the cost of living are taking place in major French cities. Some stores of Dutch retail chains were also affected during these protests. These are not details of the incident above, but other developments in the same period.
A Zeeman store in Marseille was broken into and items were stolen. A company spokeswoman said no one was injured, and that some stores were closed as a precaution. Shop windows were smashed at Hema stores in Lyon, Tours, Rouen, Marseille and Lille, and items were looted from one of them. The company said it will close stores immediately in case of danger and has deployed extra guards where necessary.
The Dutch clothing and jewelry chain My Jewellery said it lost sales because of the protests in Paris. Its store in Le Marais was temporarily closed on Saturday and the windows were covered with panels; the store reportedly sustained no physical damage. Zeeman has hundreds of stores in France. Action said its stores are mainly on side streets, so the impact remains relatively limited.
